Defining ERP Phase One Without Killing the Ambition
Phase one is not an incomplete system; it is the smallest system the business can operate with confidence.

Start with an impactful problem and accountable owner, then choose a reasonably complete cycle instead of scattering small functions across every department. Order-to-cash or procure-to-pay is clearer than dozens of screens.
Define users, entities, data, integrations, and reports required for day-one operation. Write explicit exclusions and place them on the roadmap.
Set acceptance criteria as scenarios: create order, approve, reserve, deliver, invoice, and return. Saying the system works is not testable acceptance.
After launch, allow stabilisation for data, behaviour, and training before adding new capability. Ambition remains, but every expansion stands on stable operation.
