Which Workflow Should You Automate First?
The best first workflow is not the most complex one. It is a recurring source of waiting and error that can be measured.

Automation works when it removes a visible wait, not when it turns the same confusion into a screen. Start with a recurring process that has known inputs and a clear decision owner.
Score candidate workflows on frequency, waiting time, error cost, and measurability. A purchase request, discount approval, or expense request may be a better start than a huge process with endless exceptions.
Map the current state as it really happens, including WhatsApp, email, and calls. Identify where data disappears, who chases approval, and what happens after rejection or delay.
Design the smallest version that creates value: a structured request, routing rules, visible status, alerts, and decision history. Do not add fields simply because you can. Capture only what the decision and next step need.
After launch, measure cycle time, returned requests, and overdue cases. If they do not improve, the issue may be the approval rule, role, or data—not the screen.
Expand only after the first workflow is stable. The same approval, alert, and audit components can then be reused without rebuilding every process.
